Barcoo Shire workshops in Jundah was the setting for the recent hand over of the Multi Purpose Vehicle System. After almost 10 years the original Russ Multi Purpose unit has been replaced with a new "Hook Lift MPV system". The great service life and flexibility of the original, Free standing system, helped make the decision to upgrade to the newer version.

Using the Hyva Lift 6 tonne hook loader system, fitted to a Hino FC 10 tonne 4x2 unit, the new system comprises a tip/tray body and an 8 cubic metre Russ Minipactor system. The photo below shows the base unit of the Truck and hook loader.

A number of inclusions on the unit make a very versatile vehicle, designed to meet Council's emerging needs in waste management.

The inclusions on this vehicle are: -

• Roof Mounted Revolving light for use with all attachments.
• Roof mounted work lights to provide light during system mounting and normal work processes.
• Toolbox mountings for standard toolbox fitting on each side of frame behind the cab.
• 50mm tow coupling, with air and electrics for moving existing trailer equipment around the Shire.
• Additional fuel tank to provide long range operational capabilities.
• Steel bull bar for protection against animal strike.
• Hella Rallye 1000 driving lights to light up the road at night.
• Formed alloy mudguards over the rear drive wheels.
• Stone covers over delicate equipment like fuel tanks and air tank systems.

Tip/tray body mounted on the vehicle.

The tip/tray body has been manufactured to withstand the additional lifting forces applied during the loading and unloading from the vehicle, when fully loaded. Removable sides and tail gate quickly turns this tipping body into a tray body. The tail gate is able to open three ways - normal tipping function; opens to the left; and opens to the right.

When loading or unloading the body, it is possible to off load the unit using the Hyva Hook Lift to place the body flat on the ground. This position gives superior stability properties when driving vehicles, plant or equipment onto or off the body.

The photos below show the RUSS MPV with a track loader and mini excavator on the vehicle. Both machines are loaded onto the body after it is placed on the ground and then the loaded unit is lifted back into position on the truck.

The inclusion of the Russ 8 cubic metre Minipactor system provides the additional benefit of using this system for the small time required to perform a residential waste collection service. The unit is mounted on the Hino system and the hydraulics use the existing truck hydraulic power to provide operations.

When the Russ Minipactor system is fitted, a safety interlock prevents the Hyva Hook Lift from working. This greatly reduces the potential for damage to hydraulic and electric connections between the truck and the accessory.
