The new Russ Minipactor system, recently delivered to the Warraber island Community, is another part of their new waste management project. The new vehicle will form an integral part of their collection and recycling program. The community is working towards a envnironmentally friendly way of managing their waste.
The new system will work along side the growing recycling project that has been underway for some time now.
The operators took part in onsite training, provided by Ken Russ, at Warraber Island Council Depot. Pictured above are the participants, Mika David, Donald Billy, Maka Mari, Harry Pearson, Eddie Daniels. Kelvin Mari, not in photo, is currently doing a work experience placement with the team.
Mika David, the Environmental Health Worker, for the island is happy to have a new system to make the job of collecting rubbish so much easier for his team of workers. Mika also said it was exciting to see the waste management project finally coming together and looks forward to helping the Island become a reference site in the future.
The 6 cubic metre Russ Minipactor system is fitted to a Hino 300 series 716 auto giving the community a system that will provide many years of reliable service. Systems like this one have been in operation in the Torres Straits and Cape Yorke region communities for many years. Designed to be simple to use, hard to break and reliable, the Russ Minipactor system is ideal for remote locations as they use no electronics in the system controls and they are so simple to diagnose, we stand behind our statement that they can, in most cases, easily be fixed with a pair of pliers and some fencing wire.
