Badu Island renews support PDF Print E-mail

Warraber Island's new Russ Minipactor Garbage Collection systemThe recent delivery to Badu Island of a new 6 cubic metre Russ Minipactor system fitted on a Hino 300 series 716 auto is the third Russ Minipactor for the Council. The Hino truck has been proving itself in the waste collection market in remote communities and on islands in Queensland and Northern Territory now for some time.

Pictured above is the CDEP team working with the Council to provide a clean community environment. The vehicle is operated by two teams of workers taking each week inWarraber Island CDEP supervisorTulla with Walter Tawnoy turn to collect the household waste.

CDEP supervisor Tulla, is pictured to the right  with Walter Tawnoy, a long time driver and operator for the waste collection on the island. Walter has now given almost 10 years of service in making sure the community is kept clean.

This is the third Russ Minipactor system Walter has operated and he reckons the automatic transmissions and safety switches make this one the easiest so far. Another great idea he is impressed with is the grease system that puts grease where it is most needed, and from the one spot on the truck.

It seems the only thing that stops the Russ Minipactor systems in the island communities is the very corrosive environment they operate in. The current unit is still in operation, even though rust has completely penetrated the steel shell in places.

Ken Russ, Special Equipment Manager, has the following to say on the corrosion front. “We have looked at the usual places the systems have a real corrosion problem and make sure the rust protection systems are adjusted to provide the highest level of protection for the system.”

Designed to be simple to use, hard to break and reliable, the Russ Minipactor system is ideal for remote locations as they use no electronics in the system controls and they are so simple to diagnose, we stand behind our statement that they can, in most cases, easily be fixed with a pair of pliers and some fencing wire.
